Wear Sunscreen- Baz Luhrmann

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of ’99
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be
it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by
scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable
than my own meandering
experience…I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not
understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself and
recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before
you and how fabulous you really looked….You’re not as fat as you
imagine.

Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as
effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing
bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that
never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm
on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing everyday that scares you

Sing

Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts, don’t put up with
people who are reckless with yours.

Floss

Don’t waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes
you’re behind…the race is long, and in the end, it’s only with
yourself.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you
succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.

Stretch

Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your
life…the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they
wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year
olds I know still don’t.

Get plenty of calcium.

Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.

Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll have children, maybe
you won’t, maybe you’ll divorce at 40, maybe you’ll dance the funky
chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary…what ever you do, don’t
congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either – your
choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s. Enjoy your body,
use it every way you can…don’t be afraid of it, or what other people
think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever
own..

Dance…even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.

Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.

Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for
good.

Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the
people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go,but for the precious few you
should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and
lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you
knew when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live
in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will
philander, you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize
that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were
noble and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund,
maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one
might run out.

Don’t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will
look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who
supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of
fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the
ugly parts and recycling it for more than
it’s worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen…

Quote of the Day

Between the penis and the mathematical one . . . there exists nothing. Nothing! It is a vacuum.

School.. c'est tres boring

Yello there
Like the title says, School is very boring these days.
As one would normally expect with a new year, something new but unfortunately its the same old grind. Nothing is interesting at all.
And it doesnt get any better with our rep coming in everyday and reminding us that we 42 days and counting left for class 12. I always hate it when that happens. In class 10, all year round one is reminded of the fact that it is ze Board year and one should concentrate. To an extent, I would agree but 10th is the last year to partay if you want to get good results in 11th and 12th. Besides, one can always study in the last 2 months and get respectable marks. This is not what i did though. I partayed and concentrated, in equilibrium.
Anyways,
The only subjects that I seem to want to attend are Computers*, English and somewhat Physics.
*Today, I was the first one to complete a program in less than 5 lines.. wooohoooo..

English isnt too bad either. Its the only class where a teacher keeps the whole class interested. Today, she brought us.. Yes Vanita Sehgal brought us chocolates in return for the gift we gave her for her belated birthday. By the way, did I tell you we have a Birthday Club amongst the many other stupid clubs in our class? We collect money and get gifts for all our teachers and get cards for the students.. WOOHOOO. Bet you guys arent that privileged.

And yes, coming to the reason why I dont feel like attending Maths or Chemistry. Well Maths, nobody would want to attend a Maths class if they have the teacher that we have. The Reason: shes so boring. She finishes 3 exercises on an average in one period and shes gone to a maximum of 5.
Well Chem, I dont even feel like writing about her.

Other than that, I dont see what is there in school. All 12thies and 10thies have their exams, which basically leaves me with very few people to interact with.

Yappy Noo Ear

Well Hello there

A very happy new year to all of you.

Whaddaya know? My blogs not dead after all!

It’s been a long year, and it’s been a good year. As a matter of fact, its been my best year so far. Lot has happened this past one year. I, as a student of class 10, took my board exams and passed class 10. I now have an academic qualification to add to my resume.

I went to France, to spend the best 14 days of my life ever. I met some exceptionally great people, the French ones and the ones here (I shall talk about the ones from here later). I also had great food which included Duck, and not to forget Pâté. Basically, like I have already said, the best 14 days of my life.

Coming back from France, the very same day, I was ahem.. greeted by my Board Result which was good. So yes, France is a lucky charm!

I then entered Class 11, 11-J to be more precise. The only person I knew(when I entered it) was Siddharth Nangia, who happened to be with us during the French Trip. I still cant stop laughing at Siddharth holding up a banner which read 11-J in BIG BOLD LETTERS, and in Times New Roman Font Face, which had been handed to him by none other than our very own class teacher, Mr. Anil K. Verma. Our Class Teacher is a class apart, he like to keep the ball Rawling.

Class 11-J doesn’t quite seem like a class of 16 year olds, but this can be only experienced when you listen to the utterly crappy jokes of GP and Co.

Anyways,

Class 11 is quite tiresome and kicks you in the butt and makes class 10 feel like cakewalk. I joined Fiitjee on 6th August and have never enjoyed a Weekend since then. Small Price to pay when your goal is IIT. Class 11, contrary to popular belief, is not the year to partay. And if you think it is the year to partay, and if you do manage to partay through it, have a look at your report card.

The only way you can have fun in class 11 is if you are an Exun Member, or a classmate of an Exun Member. It sure was fun sneaking out of Maths Class when we did not feel like studying.

It is also fun telling a teacher like Ms. Vanita Sehgal that she doesn’t have the brains to read Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy(It aint my fault she didn’t get find it funny)

Nonetheless, School did seem nice this past one year. I met some great people in school, strengthened some old friendships, and had a blast my own little way (sneaking out of class and playing H2G2)

The exceptionally great people from school that I met over the past one year, are exceptionally great. They changed my view of not believing in the concept of having friends because you need them and its cool to have them around to share your joys and sorrows (oh the clichés). But, I did share my joys and sorrows with them.

I made lots of Friends, yes I mean real friends. Mostly by bugging them in the Egurucool Lab(We exunites just call it DA LAB) when they were trying to work, print a magazine, print their reccos, print their forms, print anything. I also made friends by stealing pens during MUN.

These guys and gals have helped me get through this academically tormenting year. Thanks y’all!

The sad thing is, most of them are going to pass out of school this march. Sad. But, Life goes on.

EXUN. Exun is an essential part of my school life and being a member always has its benefits. You are automatically sent to DA LAB to take a print out of anything. The computer teacher(at least Mr. Dey) doesn’t say anything to you for missing his classes. I cant imagine life without EXUN. This year saw the tenth year for Exun, the symposium and what better way to celebrate than to make the greatest Intro Video ever. And im not joking. Its not everyday you hear people say, “Ahhh!.. so that’s why they got Sony as their Sponsor”. Certainly, we are the experts.

MUN was another fun thing. Much more fun than last year, particularly because I got to miss my FIITJEE class and be there all the three days. This year, I held the post of the USG – Information and Computer Services and yes its fun being that. I did manage to scare this little kid at Eatopia when he saw me with my big head(because of the turban on). I have already mentioned how I made friends here.

In the year 2005, I was also offered the Singapore International Airlines(SIA) Youth Scholarship to pursue my pre-university(year 11 and 12) level education in one of Singapore’s top ranking Junior Colleges. I, however declined it. I wanted to go but my parents voted against it. Ahh, Such is life. But Life Goes on.

I also happened to witness the Scribbler’s Day where about a thousand dipsites of class 12 are released in the football field and they write all sorts of messages on each others shirts because its their last day as normal dipsites after which they must study for their exams. Sad. But life goes on.

I shall miss you guys, thanks for making this year worthwhile for me.

As I bid goodbye(or as I already have) to this great year, I hope that this new year brings the same challenges and joys and people. Now I understand why being 16, is what it is. Id rather be 16 till I die. But nonetheless, I am going to be 17, which by any means is old. Also, this shall be my last year as an exunite, and as a dipsite. Sad. But life Goes on.
